You're a new Procurement Director and you are trying to build a team culture. There is one disgruntled and toxic employee who refuses to accept your attempts because she is angry about decisions made by the previous director. What do you do?
AP Response:
The director had an initial conversation with the employee, helping her recognize how some of her misunderstandings stemmed from circumstances she had, in part, accepted. While she remained challenging for a time, her behavior shifted after she was reassigned to our team.
As the direct supervisor, we took the opportunity to have a candid, empathetic conversation with her about her concerns. We connected over shared personality traits and made a point to demonstrate genuine care and support. As a result, she was never a problem, and we maintained a positive relationship, even after both of us moved on from our roles.
